This interesting little plant was bought on the spur of the moment from the lovely garden centre down in Bishopsteignton. We planted it in the woodland bed where it should hopefully do well.

Iris foetidissima
I’ve wanted this pretty little Iris for a while now, as I think it will be great in the woodland bed as the conditions there seem great for it. I bought this plant for a fiver of eBay and it came in a jiffy bag, which was a bit odd. It was a bit bent, […]
Fatsia japonica ‘Spider’s Web’
The first of our shade shrubs for putting in the lower woodland border over the winter. Bought as an impulse buy from our trip to Withleigh Nurseries up near Tiverton. This one needs shade and is quite tolerant of the conditions in the woodland bed, so hopefully it will do well. It was planted near […]
Fritillaria meleagris
I’ve wanted to get some more of these interesting little spring bulbs for a while now. Found these on a offer and the bulbs look good and strong. Hopefully will get them naturalised in the lower woodland bed over the next few years.
A nice little fern bought on impulse to fill out our woodland bed. It has taken well and seems to be thriving.
Polystichum tsussimense
A pretty little fern to fill out the front of our woodland bed. It seems to have taken well.
Cheilanthes lanosa
A pretty little light green fern to fill out the front of our woodland bed. It seems to have taken well.
A lovely large fern which has golden leaves when young, which open out to be much more green. Very similar to my other Dryopteris. It should put out lovely golden frongs in the autumn. Needed watering, but has taken well.
A lovely little green fern to fill out our lower shade bed at the bottom of the garden. This one is slightly different to our other Harts Tongue Fern, with narrower, rippled leaves. It established quickly. Should do well.
Dryopteris eryrthrosora
A lovely large fern which has golden leaves when young, which open out to be much more green. It did need a lot of water to establish, but now that it is growing, it should do really well at the back of my shady woodland border. See also our other similar fern: Dryopteris eryrthrosora ‘Brilliance’
