This Yellow floating heart (or dwarf waterlily) is a native British pond plant which came with my pond starter collection from Wetland Plants. It is planted quite deep and in a decent sized pot so may get quite large, which would be nice. It doesn’t look like much at the moment!
I used to have the white version of this in the Manchester Allotment, and I always enjoyed the late summer flowers. I have seen the red version around a lot this year (2020) and a customer gave me a Rhizome for my garden. It used to be called Schizostylis. I will hopefully incorporate it into […]
I’ve wanted this pretty little Iris for a while now, as I think it will be great in the woodland bed as the conditions there seem great for it. I bought this plant for a fiver of eBay and it came in a jiffy bag, which was a bit odd. It was a bit bent, […]
I bought this to give a bit of a red background to the border. It turns out that the flowers are a kind of ghastly pink colour, which doesn’t go with my Red, Blue and Yellow scheme at all. It may be moved in the winter. It has taken well though, despite being shaded and […]
I was keen to grow an Iris as I have not done so before. This one should be a lovely blue colour. It has taken well in its first year and will hopefully thicken and flower next year.
This pretty red Echinacea started off very slowly. Didn’t do a lot for a long time. Monty Don says these like wet summers and dry winters. Don’t hold out much hope for it living in completely the opposite of that. We’ll see though.
A beautiful variegated leaf and a hardy plant. Slugs seem to like it later on in the summer. It was dug up and moved a couple of feet in November 2020.
This is quite a robust plant which can tolerate very dry conditions. It is also very easy to split and I have made at least 4 plants in the same bed out of it. It does go black in windy conditions and looks untidy if not doing well.
This lovely Geum was really struggling in out wooland border. It was in complete shade and had grown very leggy. I dug it up in March 2020 and potted it up and put it on the patio. It instantly loved it, but so di the aphids. I finally left it to the aphids and it […]
A beautiful plant which was a show plant at the RHS Chatsworth show in June 2017. It did well in my Manchester Allotment and I transplanted it down to Devon. It then did well in our cottage and was transplanted here. It tried in the first year, but then didn’t come up in 2020. Probably […]
