Anemone blanda

A pretty little spring blue flower (Winter windflower) added to the back of the bottom bed to blend the line to the woodland part. The flowers are both blue and white, which should be fun.

Anemone nemorosa

A pretty little wood anemone added to the back of the bottom bed to blend the line to the woodland part. Hopefully it naturalises easily to give some early spring colour.

Rheum × hybridum ‘Timperley Early’

We’ve wanted to get a Rhubarb in the garden for a while and bought this one on offer from St Bridgets in Feb 2021. I though it would be a good idea to start off with just a root, I can then build it up over the next few years until we have space for […]

Mentha pulegium

This marginal pond plant (pennyroyal) arrived as bareroot bunch in December 2020 with a pond starter kit from Wetland plants. This mint was planted on the edge of the pond among the stones. It may dry out too much there, but fingers crossed …

Nymphoides peltata

This Yellow floating heart (or dwarf waterlily) is a native British pond plant which came with my pond starter collection from Wetland Plants. It is planted quite deep and in a decent sized pot so may get quite large, which would be nice. It doesn’t look like much at the moment!

Hesperantha coccinea ‘Major’

I used to have the white version of this in the Manchester Allotment, and I always enjoyed the late summer flowers. I have seen the red version around a lot this year (2020) and a customer gave me a Rhizome for my garden. It used to be called Schizostylis. I will hopefully incorporate it into […]

Iris foetidissima

I’ve wanted this pretty little Iris for a while now, as I think it will be great in the woodland bed as the conditions there seem great for it. I bought this plant for a fiver of eBay and it came in a jiffy bag, which was a bit odd. It was a bit bent, […]

Astilbe ‘Darwin’s Dream’

I bought this to give a bit of a red background to the border. It turns out that the flowers are a kind of ghastly pink colour, which doesn’t go with my Red, Blue and Yellow scheme at all. It may be moved in the winter. It has taken well though, despite being shaded and […]

Iris sibirica ‘Blue Bird’

I was keen to grow an Iris as I have not done so before. This one should be a lovely blue colour. It has taken well in its first year and will hopefully thicken and flower next year.
