A nice little flower added to the bottom bed to bring more interest. Hopefully it takes off and does well.

Anemone blanda
A pretty little spring blue flower (Winter windflower) added to the back of the bottom bed to blend the line to the woodland part. The flowers are both blue and white, which should be fun.
Anemone nemorosa
A pretty little wood anemone added to the back of the bottom bed to blend the line to the woodland part. Hopefully it naturalises easily to give some early spring colour.
Ranunculus flammula
This marginal pond plant arrived as bareroot bunches in December 2020 with a pond starter kit from Wetland plants. This was sunk in an aquatic pot and fixed with stones on the first shelf of the pond. It seems to have taken well over the winter and has put out good growth already!
Caltha palustris
This marginal pond plant arrived as bareroot bunches in December 2020 with a pond starter kit from Wetland plants. This was sunk in an aquatic pot and fixed with stones on the first shelf of the pond. It seems to have survived the first winter quite well.
Clematis ‘Helios’
My first go at growing clematis from seed. The seeds were bought from Thomson and Morgan and sown in the spring. They took ages to come up. So long in fact that we nearly gave up on them. Must have been a couple of months. Eventually they grew and I pricked them out and eventually […]
Clematis ‘Ernest Markham’
This was quick to establish and ran up the cane quickly. It got up into my tree quickly and put out some nice flowers. It really didn’t like the hot weather and will need better protection at the roots. I kept it well watered though and it survived. Should provide better root protection next year. […]
Ranunculus gramineus
This was an impulse buy. A lovely little buttercup with light green leaves. We didn’t have a proper alpine bed ready for it when we bought it so I put in the main bed with the other grasses. It really didn’t like our wet winter and did not come up in 2020. Died: March 2020
Clematis tangutica
A very vigorous clematis. It did take a while to get going in my sandy soil, but it was up and covering the fence in a matter of weeks. I did support it using electrical cable tags, but it didn’t really work very well. The flowers are a lovely bright yellow which form into an […]
This was quick to establish and ran up the cane quickly. I was planning on trying to get it to climb into our tree at the bottom, but it died suddenly. I think it got cooked on a hot day, or was ringed by slugs. Sad. Died: July 2020
