A very large and vigorous raspberry type bush. It seems to try and go everywhere, and splits off readily. It’s not a true raspberry. It’s a member of a completely different family of Rubus. Not tried the fruit yet, and its aggressive, untidy nature is annoying me a bit. It might not last the winter. […]
I was looking forward to growing this raspberry as it has done well with me in the past. It died for no apparent reason within weeks without doing much. Plants Galore strikes again. RIP: 2020-06. I got a new one in March 2021.
I bought this to give a bit of a red background to the border. It turns out that the flowers are a kind of ghastly pink colour, which doesn’t go with my Red, Blue and Yellow scheme at all. It may be moved in the winter. It has taken well though, despite being shaded and […]
I was keen to grow an Iris as I have not done so before. This one should be a lovely blue colour. It has taken well in its first year and will hopefully thicken and flower next year.
I wasn’t sure about putting a bi-coloured flower at the back of my border. I couldn’t really think of anything else, and this looked like a nice addition. Upon purchase, the root didn’t look like much. It didn’t come up. No growth at all. It may have got slugged, can’t be sure though. Declared dead […]
A very vigorous clematis. It did take a while to get going in my sandy soil, but it was up and covering the fence in a matter of weeks. I did support it using electrical cable tags, but it didn’t really work very well. The flowers are a lovely bright yellow which form into an […]
An unusual Buddleja which I though would look great at the back of my border in a difficult area. It has done quite well in it’s first year and has flowered. It struggles in dry weather and does need keeping an eye on and giving some extra watering. But the bees and insects do love […]
This was quick to establish and ran up the cane quickly. I was planning on trying to get it to climb into our tree at the bottom, but it died suddenly. I think it got cooked on a hot day, or was ringed by slugs. Sad. Died: July 2020
A pretty red flowering Clematis. Needed a lot of extra watering in the hot summer, but it climbed up a cane well and flowered in its first year. I may move it for next year, but glad to have it on the back fence for now.
I’m not sure that this fits in the border yet. It has taken it’s time to come up and do anything, and did blow over in the wind very easily, so I had to support it. I’ll see how nice the flowers are when they come out, but at the moment it looks like a […]
