Hopefully, a lovely tall clean, Red Tulip bought online in autumn 2020. Along with Tulipa ‘Golden Apeldoorn’ and Tulipa ‘Denmark’. I planted it in pairs with Tulipa ‘Denmark’ in the Main Bed. Looking forward to seeing them. Some of the bulbs were a little mouldy and soft. Hope they come up. I probably left them […]
Hopefully, a lovely tall, Red and Yellow Tulip bought online in autumn 2020. Along with Tulipa ‘Golden Apeldoorn’ and Tulipa ‘Kingsblood’ I planted it in pairs with Tulipa ‘Kingsblood’ in the Main Bed. Looking forward to seeing them. A really interesting white tulip with a red strip. Looking forward to seeing it as I only bought it from the pictures. We planted it up in the square pot which held Dahlia ‘David Howard’, so they should have plenty of space. Bought online from Peter Nyssen Ltd.
I used to have the white version of this in the Manchester Allotment, and I always enjoyed the late summer flowers. I have seen the red version around a lot this year (2020) and a customer gave me a Rhizome for my garden. It used to be called Schizostylis. I will hopefully incorporate it into […]
Bought as an impulse buy to fill a gap. Seems to have taken really well and put on a lot of new growth in a couple of months.
I wasn’t sure about putting a bi-coloured flower at the back of my border. I couldn’t really think of anything else, and this looked like a nice addition. Upon purchase, the root didn’t look like much. It didn’t come up. No growth at all. It may have got slugged, can’t be sure though. Declared dead […]
A pretty red flowering Clematis. Needed a lot of extra watering in the hot summer, but it climbed up a cane well and flowered in its first year. I may move it for next year, but glad to have it on the back fence for now.
This pretty red Echinacea started off very slowly. Didn’t do a lot for a long time. Monty Don says these like wet summers and dry winters. Don’t hold out much hope for it living in completely the opposite of that. We’ll see though.
A wonderful tall red flower which brings striking contrast into the border. I may look at bringing in more of these to break up my summer yellows and put some repeats through the lines of the bed.
A nice little Red Hot Poker. Hasn’t flowered yet, but has taken well and has bushed up nicely. Seemed to be quite at home in the very dry soil and didn’t need any extra watering during the very hot weather of August 2020.
