We bought this lovely Senecio (Ragwort) spontaneously at the Powderham Garden Centre as it looked lovely. It is related to the common Ragwort, which I didn’t expect! I was going to put it in the Main Bed, but decided it would look best in out big pot on the Patio with some black and white […]
I’ve wanted this little blue daisy for a while since I saw it in a lawn customers‘ garden back in the summer. It was bought from Withleigh nurseries which is a lovely little place over near Tiverton. It was a pretty crowded plant in a pot, but looked to be doing well. I potted it […]
An interesting little Aster. I’ve not had much success with these in the past, but this one had run away and is throwing out lovely flowers within a month. I really like it.
A lovely dark leaved dahlia with lots of bright orange flowers. Really striking. I had it in a pot which previously held one of our sad peonies. It looked a bit sad as it was probably a bit cramped. Tried to keep it fed and it did flower well. This was lifted on 7 November […]
I bought this to replace my Helenium ‘Betty’ which never came up. It was an impulse purchase and it doesn’t really fit. Too many yellows. It has done well and it is a nice plant though, just maybe needs shifting a little bit. Lifted in November 2020 and temporarily planted in a pot.
I wasn’t sure about putting a bi-coloured flower at the back of my border. I couldn’t really think of anything else, and this looked like a nice addition. Upon purchase, the root didn’t look like much. It didn’t come up. No growth at all. It may have got slugged, can’t be sure though. Declared dead […]
This pretty red Echinacea started off very slowly. Didn’t do a lot for a long time. Monty Don says these like wet summers and dry winters. Don’t hold out much hope for it living in completely the opposite of that. We’ll see though.
I’ve not grown this before and I was surprised at how it turned out. Lots of yellow flowers and a strong plant. Seems to be great in my dry soil and established quickly.
I had this for many years in my Manchester Allotment. In spring 2020 I thought it had not survived the winter. I dug over the bed it was in and realised there was some roots of it still there. I potted this up just in case. I bought a new one just in case. Low […]
A really reliable Rudbeckia. I had a big clump of this in my Manchester allotment for a long time and it looked fabulous every year. This plant has grown away well and flowered in its first year, so I’m keen to see it develop in later years.
