This was an impulse buy. A lovely little buttercup with light green leaves. We didn’t have a proper alpine bed ready for it when we bought it so I put in the main bed with the other grasses. It really didn’t like our wet winter and did not come up in 2020. Died: March 2020
Category: Garden Plants – Dead
I was looking forward to growing this raspberry as it has done well with me in the past. It died for no apparent reason within weeks without doing much. Plants Galore strikes again. RIP: 2020-06.
Helenium ‘Betty’
I wasn’t sure about putting a bi-coloured flower at the back of my border. I couldn’t really think of anything else, and this looked like a nice addition. Upon purchase, the root didn’t look like much. It didn’t come up. No growth at all. It may have got slugged, can’t be sure though. Declared dead […]
This was quick to establish and ran up the cane quickly. I was planning on trying to get it to climb into our tree at the bottom, but it died suddenly. I think it got cooked on a hot day, or was ringed by slugs. Sad. Died: July 2020
Dahlia ‘Bilbao’
After potting up from new, this Dahlia showed signs of Crown Gall. A bacterial infection which leads to distorted leaves and a disappointing plant. I did plant it up, but it just got worse and I eventually decided to bin it. Sad really. It was to be a lovely big yellow one, but it was […]
Dahlia ‘Show ‘n’ Tell’
First flower … 25/08/2020 Larger leaves and not quite as tall as some of the others, but we’ll see what the flowers look like. The flowers are a massive, showy red explosion. Not sure I love them, but they are amazing! I binned it in November 2020 to make room for nicer varieties. I didn’t […]
Passiflora caerulea
A vigorous climber which seems to be quite hardy and easy to train. It also put out a lot of strong shoots in a lot of directions. I bought this one off the cuff from Tesco (along with a white version: Passiflora caerulea “Constance Eliott”) to replace a previous passion flower which was planted in […]
Milium effusum ‘Aureum’
It looked good in the pot when I bought it from Plants Galore, but it really hasn’t done well and just looks like a clump of weed grass now. It may not make it to winter … R.I.P November 2020. Got thrown out in the November 2020 Main Bed – Top Rearranging.
Gillenia trifoliana
A beautiful plant which was a show plant at the RHS Chatsworth show in June 2017. It did well in my Manchester Allotment and I transplanted it down to Devon. It then did well in our cottage and was transplanted here. It tried in the first year, but then didn’t come up in 2020. Probably […]
