Vegetable Update – 4 April 2021

A lovely sunny Easter weekend. Everything seems to be getting off to a great start, although a lot of the pots drying out already! Bad sign of things to come … This week I: Tidied a refilled the pond a bit. Seems to be losing a bit of water, so 4 cans of rainwater helped. […]

We had some good rain this week and all plants seem to be just ready to start. Very exciting. Things completed this weekend: Planted my new rambling rose Rosa ‘Kew Rambler’ down in the dark corner. Planted the old Primula auricula ‘Lunar Eclipse’ in the new bottom bed. I added a bird table for the […]

General Update – 14 March 2021

Last weekend I mulched all the beds with NutriMulch from Field compost. Really nice stuff and 730 litres covered the whole lot. Did some good pottering today including: Cut back the Passiflora caerulea ‘Constance Eliott’ down to 30cm. The rest got quite badly frost damaged. Thinned out my previous seedlings which are coming up well. […]

February has been pretty cold so not a lot of work on the garden outside so far this year. Pond froze a couple of days, but not much more. Added a bird feeder over the winter and it seems to be popular. Starlings also like having a bath in the pond, which is great to […]

My first seedlings have appeared after just 1 week. Lettuces, Kohl Rabi and Kale are all up. That is exciting. I put down the rest of my gravel surrounding my pond and neatened the edges. Looks much better. I spent a lot of the day planting the perennials into the main bed which had sat […]

Pond Building – November 2020

Started digging my pond in November 2020. At the bottom corner of the lawn. Not massive, but got it quite deep, so hopefully it will be enough to prevent winter freezing. Was please that the stone layer just ended up to be a sandstone layer and was easy to break through in the end. Pure […]

General Update – 15 November 2020

Awful weekend of wet and windy weather. Didn’t do a lot as it was so awful! Planted up the Senecio candidans ‘Angel Wings’ with Tulipa ‘Queen of Night’ and Tulipa ‘Pays Bas’ underneath. Black and white effect should look nice. Lifted the Patio stones in my Main Bed – Top which were there while the […]

General Update – 1 November 2020

After a wet couple of weeks a lot of the garden is looking a bit sorry for itself. The warm temperatures have still meant that a lot of plants are still trying to flower though. One of my Colchicum autumnale ‘Album’ started flowering. Very pretty. Planted up the cuttings of my Salvia ‘Amistad’ into Grey […]

General Update – 8 November 2020

A really good weekend of tidying the garden. We had our first frosts this week after some nice clear skies. This stuffed a few of the tender plants, so I got on with lifting them. On Saturday I did: Dug up and trimmed all of my Dahlias. Good tubors on most of them, except Dahlia […]
